Privacy Policy
The short version: carwashindex has no accounts, sets no cookies, runs no analytics and operates no server that sees your data. Your settings stay in your browser; your coordinates go to one weather API to fetch your forecast, and nowhere else.

Who operates this site
This site is operated by Justas Jarmalavičius (individuali veikla), publishing as drivenerve, the family of driving tools carwashindex.com belongs to. The site carries no advertising and no tracking; its one commercial relationship is the affiliate link described below.
What this policy covers
This policy describes what actually happens when you use carwashindex.com, in any country. It is written to satisfy the EU/EEA and UK GDPR, the ePrivacy rules on device storage, the California CCPA/CPRA, Canada's PIPEDA, Australia's Privacy Act (APPs) and New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. Because the service is built to avoid collecting personal data, most of those laws have very little to attach to.
What stays on your device
The site stores a small amount of functional data in your browser's localStorage: your chosen units, your saved location, up to three recent searches, and the last downloaded forecast (so the app opens instantly next time). This storage is strictly functional, is never read by anyone but the page on your device, contains no identifiers, and is not a cookie. You can erase it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. Because it is strictly necessary functional storage under the ePrivacy rules, no consent banner is required — and none is shown.
What leaves your browser
- Forecast requests. To score your location, your browser sends coordinates directly to Open-Meteo, an open-source weather API (forecast, air-quality and geocoding endpoints). If you type a search, the text you typed is sent to the geocoding endpoint to find matching places.
- The "my location" button asks your browser for position through the standard permission prompt; nothing happens unless you allow it. Coordinates are rounded to roughly 1 km precision before any request leaves your device.
- We operate no backend of our own: no request from this site reaches a server we run, so we cannot see, log or store your location, IP address or anything else. Open-Meteo processes forecast requests under its own terms and privacy practices; requests travel directly from your browser to their infrastructure.
What we never collect
No accounts, no names, no email lists, no cookies, no analytics scripts, no advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking, no sale or sharing of personal information — in the CCPA/CPRA sense or any other. Fonts, images and code are all served from this site's own domain, so viewing a page triggers no third-party requests at all.
Affiliate links
Since 19 August 2026 the after the wash guide contains a single affiliate link to CARiD, a car parts and car care retailer serving the United States. Since 23 August 2026 the same link can also appear under a finished WASH verdict, on US locations only, as a second option after the free guide. It is labelled as a partner link everywhere it appears and marked rel="sponsored". If you follow it and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
What that link does and does not do:
- It is an ordinary link. No script, pixel, tag or partner image is loaded anywhere on this site, so nothing about you is shared until you choose to click.
- Following it sends only what any link sends: your browser's request to the partner's own tracking domain, which then redirects you to the shop. A fixed page code travels with it so we can tell which page a click came from:
cwi-carefrom the guide,cwi-verdictfrom a verdict, with the city name added when you are on a city page. It contains no information about you. - Your location, search text and forecast never leave for a partner. They go to Open-Meteo to compute the score and nowhere else.
- Once you are on the partner's site you are under their privacy policy and cookie rules, not ours.
- No commercial relationship touches the index: not the score, not the WASH / BORDERLINE / WAIT verdict, not the wash windows, not which cities appear. On US locations the partner link can sit under a finished WASH verdict as a second option after the free guide link, and it continues to sit in the guide itself; neither placement changes a number.
Legal bases (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies: relaying your coordinates to the weather API is processing necessary to provide the service you are asking for (Article 6(1)(b)); browser geolocation runs only on your consent, given through the permission prompt and revocable in your browser settings at any time. No other processing takes place.
Downloads and share links
The score card image and calendar reminder are generated entirely on your device and downloaded straight from your browser; they are never uploaded. The "share" button builds a link that contains the coordinates and name of the forecast location — share it only if you are comfortable with the recipient knowing that place.
If you email us
Writing to hello@drivenerve.com shares your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply, keep it only as long as the conversation needs, and never add it to any list.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, and the right to complain to your data-protection authority (EU/EEA and UK), rights under the CCPA/CPRA (California), PIPEDA (Canada), the Australian Privacy Principles, or New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. In practice: since we hold no personal data about you, there is normally nothing for us to look up, correct or delete — your localStorage is under your own control. If you believe we hold anything about you (for example, past email correspondence), write to us and we will resolve it promptly.
Children
The service is not directed at children and, as described above, collects no personal data from anyone.
Planned features — not active today
None of the following exists on this site today. If any of them launches, this policy will be updated first, with a new date above:
- Analytics — if added, it will be a cookieless, aggregate-only service, documented here by name.
- Newsletter — if added, it will be double opt-in, with an unsubscribe link in every email and the provider named here.
- Further affiliate or partner links — the one live link is described under "Affiliate links" above. Any additional partner will be named on this page before its link goes up, labelled the same way, and will never receive your location or forecast.
Changes
Material changes to this policy appear on this page with an updated date. If a change ever means data starts leaving your device in a new way, it will be described here plainly before it happens.
